The Hopi Journey Maze is a very old Hopi design. It represents many journeys through one's life. The Hopi believe you enter a journey by taking the first step in to the Journey Maze (The foot step entering the maze represents this.) You then work your way though all the twists and turns of your journey until you reach the center or the end of the journey. When reaching the center you have a choice of another journey and must choose one of the four directions that represents the next step in one's life. After choosing the next journey the process then starts over.
As the legend illustrates, the figure at the top of the maze indicates birth. Following the winding path to the center, one encounters many turns and variations indicative of life choices. On life’s journey, one obtains strength, knowledge and comprehension. The maze depicts a quest for balance as we move toward our dreams and objectives.
As one approaches the end of the maze, they are able to reflect on their past life and seek purity before advancing to the center. According to the legend, the Sun God is there to escort us to eternal life in a new world.
